More information about 1000 Buddha Tibetan Thangka Painting 39" W x 55" H

Buddha was born as the prince of a small tribe known as the Shakyas. His kingdom was located in the Himalayas foothills in a region known today as central Nepal. When he attained enlightenment, his followers gave him the name of Shakyamuni meaning "Sage of the Shakyas"

The 1000 Buddha thangka shows Shakyamuni Meditating in the center of the painting holding in his left hand an alms bowl while the right hand is touching the ground in bbumisparsha mudra. The gesture recalls the moment Buddha defeated the demon Mara praying and invoking the earth goddess Bhudevi. The multiplicity of the Buddha as background of the painting underlines the concept of the universal nature of enlightenment.
