The Damaru is a sacred two sided drum that is considered as essential support for Tibetan Buddhist ritual practice. Damaru are accompanied by a long tail or banner known as a Chopen. The sound of Damaru is viewed as a symbol of emptiness or shunyata. The two drums joined together represents relative and ultimate Bodhichitta. The Shape of the Damaru has its roots in ancient India where one sided of the drum is seen to represent the male energy and other represent the female creativity.
