Mandala is a circle which is a device for the tantric meditation. The mandala is a graphic representation of this process. It is not only theoretical but practical also an operational scheme involving a clear plan for practical realization of the process within oneself. There are many types and varieties of mandala depending on the nature of central deity.The mandala represents "place of purity" a magic sphere cleared of spiritual obstacles and unpurified. These thangks are so wonderfully painted that each and every detail of the thangkas can be clearly visible.

 

Thangkas are traditionally kept unframed and rolled up when not to display, mounted on a textile backing with a further silk cover on the front. So treated, thangkas can last a long time, but because of their delicate nature, they have to be kept on dry places where moisture will not affect the quality of the silk. Thangkas were designed to be displayed, typically for very brief periods on a monastery wall, as part of religious festivals. Most thangkas are intended for personal meditation and also for decoration. Thangka serve as important teaching tools depicting the life of the Buddha, various influential lama's and other deities. Images of deities can be used as teaching tools when depicting the life of Buddha, lama's and other deities. Most, importantly religious art is used as meditation tool to help bring one further down the path of enlightment. Thangka hang on or beside altars, and may be hung in the bedrooms or offices of monks and other devotees.
